A boiler that fires is not the same as a system that works. Flow rates, pump sizing, air removal, water treatment, zone balancing and control strategy all determine whether you get even heat and a long service life, or hot spots, short cycling and a unit that wears out early.
None of that is visible on the day of the install, which is exactly why it gets skipped. It shows up two winters later as a room that never warms up, a boiler that clicks on and off continuously, or a pump that has failed for the second time.
The worst time to discover a heating problem is the first genuinely cold week of the year, when every heating contractor in the region is already booked. An annual service catches the things that cause mid winter failures: a fouled heat exchanger, a failing expansion vessel, air in the loops, a zone valve that has stopped responding.
In floor radiant loops, hydronic baseboard, and cast iron or panel radiators are all still in service across the Lower Mainland, often mixed within a single house after decades of renovations. Getting them to share one boiler and one control scheme sensibly is a design question as much as an installation one, and it is worth treating it that way.
