Heating & Boilers · Greater Vancouver
Switching to a gas range, adding a BBQ line on the patio, or running gas to a new fireplace or heater. We plan and install gas piping sized for everything it needs to feed.
Gas ranges and cooktops, built-in and patio BBQs, fireplaces and fire tables, patio heaters, dryers, and the gas supply for water heaters, tankless units and boilers.
We connect and commission the appliance as well as running the line: gas ranges and cooktops, dryers, fireplaces and inserts, BBQs, patio heaters, water heaters and boilers. That means the right connector and shut-off valve, a leak test, checking the appliance lights and burns properly, and confirming the venting where the appliance needs it.
Swapping an electric range or dryer for gas usually needs both a new line and the appliance hookup, so we quote them together.
Every appliance on a line adds to the load. A new tankless water heater or boiler can need far more gas than the one it replaces, and a line that is too small starves appliances when several run at once. Before adding anything, the whole system should be checked against the meter and the total load.
In BC, installing gas piping or gas appliances needs a gas permit. For most houses in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Maple Ridge and the City and District of North Vancouver, the permit comes from the municipality; elsewhere it comes from Technical Safety BC. Strata owners cannot take out a homeowner gas permit and must hire a licensed contractor.
New lines are pressure tested for leaks before appliances are connected. If you smell gas, leave the building and call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911.
