Hydronic heating is quiet and comfortable until something stops working. We repair gas boilers, circulator pumps, zone valves and controls across Greater Vancouver.
No heat, or only some rooms heating: often a circulator pump, zone valve, thermostat or air in the system. Pressure dropping or the relief valve dripping: a leak, a failed expansion tank or a fill valve problem. Banging, kettling or gurgling: air, scale or flow problems. Frequent lockouts on a modern boiler: ignition, venting, condensate or sensor faults, usually shown as an error code.
Check that the thermostat has power and is calling for heat, that the boiler switch and breaker are on, and that the gas is on. Note the pressure on the gauge and any error code on the display. Do not keep resetting a boiler that locks out; the lockout is there for a reason.

Manufacturers recommend servicing a boiler regularly, and the start of the heating season is the time to do it. A service covers a combustion check, cleaning the burner and heat exchanger, and checking the expansion tank, pressure relief valve, low-water cutoff, condensate drain and venting. We also bleed air from the system and check the pressure and pump operation.
A serviced boiler is far less likely to fail on the first cold night, and problems found early are cheaper to fix. FortisBC has offered a rebate toward having a boiler serviced by a licensed gas contractor. Check their site for the current terms.
