Every hour, every city we cover

Phoenix Plumbing & Heating runs shifts around the clock, seven days a week. The service area at 3 a.m. is the same as at 3 p.m.: Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, Port Moody, New Westminster, Delta, Langley and Maple Ridge.

If you are just outside that list, call and ask.

What counts as an emergency

Anything causing damage now, or that will by morning. Water coming through a ceiling or out of a wall. A burst or split pipe. A water heater leaking from the tank. A toilet, drain or sewer line backing up into the house. No heat in cold weather, especially with young children or older family members at home, or where pipes could freeze.

If you are not sure whether it can wait, call and describe what you are seeing.

What to do before we arrive

Shut off the water. In most Lower Mainland houses the main shutoff is where the water line enters the building, often in the basement, crawlspace or utility room on the street side. Condos and townhouses usually have a shutoff inside the suite; if you cannot find it, call your building manager or your strata emergency line as well as us.

If the leak is at the water heater, turn off its water supply and its power or gas control. Keep people away from water near outlets or electrical panels. Move what you can out of the way, and take photos before anything is cleaned up, because your insurer will want them.

If you smell gas, call FortisBC first

Do not wait for a plumber. Leave the building, then call FortisBC's 24-hour emergency line at 1-800-663-9911, or 911. Once FortisBC has made the site safe, we can help with the repair.

Same standards at 2 a.m.

Emergency or not, every job gets the same treatment: a written quote before work begins, from licensed and fully insured plumbers.
