Poly B is a Lower Mainland problem

Polybutylene supply pipe was installed widely in BC homes built or plumbed between the late seventies and the mid nineties. The failures are well documented: the material degrades from the inside, and the fittings and the pipe wall give way with very little warning. Insurers have taken notice, and many now ask about it directly.

Not every Poly B system is at the point of failure, and we are not going to tell you it is. What we will do is look at what you actually have, what condition the fittings are in, and whether a staged replacement makes more sense for you than doing the whole house at once.

The plan matters more than the pipe

Any competent plumber can join modern supply pipe. What separates a repipe you barely notice from one you remember for years is the planning: where the new runs go, how many openings that requires, which ones can be reached from a crawlspace or an attic instead of a finished wall, and who closes them up afterwards.

We walk the house and map that out before we start, so you know how many holes there will be, where they are, and what the sequence looks like. Water off for a known number of hours is manageable. Water off indefinitely while someone works it out is not.

Main water lines and pressure

The line from the street is easy to forget until it fails or starts restricting flow. Galvanised mains corrode closed over time, and a failing pressure regulator will either starve the house or subject it to street pressure it was never meant to see. Both show up as complaints about fixtures rather than about the main, which is why they get misdiagnosed.
